Fattoria dei Barbi Description

This is certainly one of the "realms" of brunello and of agriculture understood in the Tuscan sense: it produces not just wine, therefore, but also oil, salted meats, cheese, etc. The estate is old and originated with the Colombini family, present in Montalcino ever since 1352 and owners of the Barbi estate since 1790. The vineyards extend over 86 heactares, about 20% of the total area, and have an easterly or south-easterly exposure.

Wines from Fattoria dei Barbi

Brusco

Tasting Notes: The Brusco's patented method of vinification produces a full-bodied wine with fruity and spicy aromas. Grapes are de-stemmed but not pressed, and pumped into stainless steel tanks for a prolonged fermentation. The wine is kept on the lees under a carbon dioxide blanket for three months to develop its unique character. It is then pressed and aged for one year in the tank followed by six months bottle conditioning before release.
Sensory analysis: Intense perfume with scents of mature red fruits as prune and cherry. The taste is dry, warm, supple and harmoniously tannic. The aftertaste presents the same notes of fruits of the bouquet and light notes of spices as black pepper.
Grape varieties: Sangiovese 100%
Food Pairings: It is the perfect with appetizers, full-flavoured main courses, pasta with savoury sauces, roasted vegetables, cold meats and medium cheeses.
Total production: 20.000 bottles each year.

Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G.

Tasting Notes: This red wine is produced since 1892 and was awarded many times for its quality. the colour is intense ruby red.
Sensory analysis: The bouquet is of red berries, black berry and cherry with hints of spices and liquorice. The taste is warm and ample, with a good structure and soft tannins. The aftertaste presents the same notes of fruits and spices of the bouquet.
Grape varieties: Sangiovese 100%
Food Pairings: perfect for important dishes , roasted or grilled red meats or game. Excellent with mature cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 18° C.
Total production: 200.000 bottles.

Brunello di Montalcino Reserva D.O.C.G.

Tasting Notes: This Riserva of Brunello is made with a special selection of grapes collected from our best vineyards in Montalcino. The ageing in barrel and in bottle is longer than the one for a regular Brunello, thus the wine has a deeper concentration and a wider complexity of aromas.
Sensory analysis: Very intense ruby red with shades of garnet. The bouquet is very complex with fruity and spicy flavours with hints of blackberry, black-currant and tobacco. The taste is supple, warm, tannic and well structured with an aftertaste of fruity and spicy aromas that enhances the great persistence.
Grape varieties: Sangiovese 100%
Food Pairings: Wine for important occasions, matches roast or braised meat, game and mature cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 18°C.

Brunello Vigna del Fiore D.O.C.G.

Tasting Notes: The “Vigna del Fiore” is an unique vineyard: its 14 acres (5.7 hectares) are situated in an area where the vine is cultivated since the XVI century. It is one of the southern vineyard in the whole area of Brunello di Montalcino and one of the oldest.
Sensory analysis: Dark ruby red with hues of garnet. Intense and persistent perfume, with scent of spices and stewed fruit.The taste is warm, very supple, harmonious and well-balanced. With very long after taste.
Grape varieties: Sangiovese 100%
Food Pairings: It is a wonderful wine for roasted and grilled red meats. Delicious with haute cuisine dishes. Serve at a temperature of 18°C.
